  1. EEPIC is a set of TeX macros for LaTeX. It includes several extensions to EPIC 
  2. and LaTeX picture drawing environement and provides several new commands.

  5. Additions to Version 1.00
  6. o new commands to draw filled cirlces and ellipsis.
  7. o new command to set line thickness to any width.
  8. o bugs in EEPICEMU.sty are fixed.

  11. Extensions to LaTeX and EPIC include:
  12. o drawing of lines in any slopes
  13. o drawing of circles in any radii
  14. o drawing of dotted lines and dash lines in a much faster way and much less 
  15.   TeX memory

  17. It also provides new commands for:
  18. o drawing ellipsis
  19. o drawing arcs
  20. o drawing of splines
  21.

  26. The standard EEPIC style file generates tpic \special. If your printer does not 
  27. support those specials, you have to either change "eepic" in the 
  28. \documentstyle command to "eepicemu" or rename "eepicemu.sty" to "eepic.sty" 
  29. before formating the manual. "eepicemu.sty" is the emulation package of EEPIC 
  30. using EPIC and it does not generate any \special command. However, \arc 
  31. command is not supported in the emulation package. Hence, you will get 3 error 
  32. messages if you use "eepicemu" to format the manual. Furthermore, the 
  33. emulation package uses a lot more TeX memory. If your TeX run out of memory 
  34. during the formating of the manual, you can insert \clearpage between example 
  35. 3 and example 4 to put them on different pages.

  37. EPIC is an TeX macro package for use with LaTeX. It is written by 
  38. Sunil Podar, Dept of Computer Science, SUNY at Stony Brook, NY 11794.
  39. The "epic.sty" file is include in the distribution so that you can format the 
  40. manual. I strongly recommend everyone using EEPIC should get a full package of 
  41. EPIC. Information on getting EPIC and printer drivers that support tpic 
  42. specials are given at the end of this file.

  61. First, thanks to all who have responsed to my question. It seems
  62. to me that not many DVI drivers currently support tpic
  63. specials but a number of people are planning to support tpic
  64. specials in their new DVI drivers. Here is the summary.
  65.  
  66. 1) "iptex" written by Chris Torek --- This is for imagen printer. 
  67. It is included in the UNIX TeX distribution.  It is also
  68. available for anonymous ftp from a.cs.uiuc.edu in
  69. pub/TeX/iptex.tar
  70.  
  71. 2) "texx" written by Dirk Grunwald --- DVI previewers for X11. 
  72. It supports most of the tpic specials but not all. It is part of
  73. the iptex package. See 1) above.
  74.  
  75. 3) "texsun" written by Dirk Grunwald --- DVI previewers for
  76. Sunview window system. It supports most of the tpic specials. It
  77. is also part of the iptex package. See 1) above.

  79. 4) "dvips" written by Tomas Rokicki and tpic special codes are
  80. added by Dorab Patel --- A DVI to Postscript translator. It is
  81. available for anonymous ftp from labrea.stanford.edu.

  83. 5) L. Michael Gray in the University of New Hamsphire said he has
  84. modified dln01 (for DEC LN01S), dvi2ps and xdvi (for X10.4) to
  85. handle tpic specials. He may be reached at lmg%unhcs@RELAY.CS.NET.

  87. 6) "dviis" previewers for Integrated Solutions. I think it is
  88. available on june.cs.washington.edu.

  90. 7) DVI previewers written by Randy Buckland for VMS vaxstations.
  91. The program is written in Ada. The executable is available for
  92. anonymous ftp from argon.rti.org [128.109.139.64].

  94. 8) There are a number of DVI drivers in science.utah.edu but I
  95. don't know which one support tpic specials and who one don't.

  97. 9) Another "dvips" is available from a.cs.uiuc.edu in
  98. pub/TeX/dvips.tar.Z

  100. 10) quicspool that come with the distribution also supports tpic
  101. specials.

  105. any of these are wrong. If you know any DVI drivers that support
  106. tpic specials but they are not list here. Please send me a
  107. message so that I can keep this list up-to-date.

  112.   arcs.
  113. o allows user to define the area fill pattern. It may not work on
  114.   all dvi drivers but it is known to work using iptex.
